Autumnal apple crumble

This easy apple crumble recipe uses regular eating apples instead of cooking apples, making it an ideal use for any leftover fruit that needs using up.

  • 4 Tesco Granny Smith Apples
  • 2½ tbsp caster sugar
  • 2tbsp water
  • 100g plain flour
  • 50g porridge oats
  • 50g butter


Preheat the oven to gas mark 5 (190ºC / 170°C fan).

Peel, core and thinly slice the apples and place them in a baking dish.

Sprinkle the contents of the dish with a little bit of the sugar and pour 2tbsp of boiling water onto it.

Place the flour, sugar and oats in a mixing bowl.

Add the butter and rub into the mixture until it resembles breadcrumbs.

Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the apples in the dish and bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown.

Serve with a spoonful of natural yoghurt.
