What is it?

The National Ploughing Championships is Europe’s largest Outdoor Exhibition and Agricultural Trade Show. Last year the exhibition was host to 283,000 attendees and over 1,700 exhibitors with this year set to be even bigger. It all started as an inter-county ploughing championship in the 1930s and has now grown to be one of the biggest agricultural shows of its kind with over 300,000 people expected to attend this year.

Where is it on?

This year the National Ploughing Championships is set to take place in Screggan near Tullamore Co. Offaly, on a patch of land that spans more than 800 acres. The three-day event runs from September 19th until September 21st . If you’re not sure how to get there you can check out this handy transport information by clicking here.

Will Tesco be there?

At Tesco, we’re proud to work with over 13,000 Irish farming families, so in our tent this year we’ll be bringing to life some of the long standing relationships we have with our suppliers.

Across the 3 days we’ll be sampling some of our 100% fresh Irish Angus beef, fresh produce and Tesco finest* range. You’ll also be able to meet some of our Irish supplier families such as the Kerrigan family who supply our delicious Tesco own brand mushrooms and Michael and Gabriel Hoey from Country Crest who supply our finest* Rooster potatoes.

This year we’re celebrating 20 years working together with the Irish Angus Producer Group who will have their own presence in the tent.

The Tesco tent is located at Block 3, Row 34, Stand 693. You can download the site map here.

What can children do at the event?

The National Ploughing Championships is a family friendly event, so we’ve made sure that visitors of all ages will be entertained when they visit our tent. Mrs. Potts will return to our family fun zone which will feature lots of exciting activities; make sure to look out for our raspberry ball pit (we promise no raspberries were harmed in the making of this!) as well as lots of other great opportunities to keep the little ones smiling. We’ll also be giving away packets of seeds to help nurture any potential green fingers in the family, who knows,  these could be the first steps on their journey to becoming farming and agricultural stars of the future.

Will there be any competitions?

Visitors will have the chance to take part in a number of giveaways and special promotions across the three days at the Tesco tent, but the most exciting competition at the event will be run by Tesco finest* in conjunction with the Irish Angus Producers Group.

Attendees will have the opportunity to win a €3,000 voucher towards the purchase of an Irish Angus animal at the Irish Angus Cattle Society’s Elite Sale in Carrick-on-Shannon on 9  December 2017. Entry forms will be available in both the Tesco tent and the Irish Angus Producer Group stand (Block 1, Row 17, Stand 368) N.B. You must be a member of the Irish Angus Producer Group in order to enter.

What should I wear?

There’s a strong chance of rain and wind as always at this year’s event but temperatures could reach as high as 14 degrees Celsius. To stay dry, pack a raincoat or pick up a free Tesco Poncho at the Tesco Experience Tent. Whatever you do, don't forget to bring suitable footwear to handle what could turn into some mucky terrain.
