6 Of The Best Halloween Movies for The Whole Family

There’s no shortage of Halloween movies on television this October, but sometimes finding family friendly options can prove difficult. We’ve put together six of the best spooky classics that the whole family can enjoy.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Jack Skellington, one of the principle members of Halloween Town, stumbles upon a portal to Christmas Town and feels that his spooky holiday is being overshadowed by the glitzy glamour of his rival holiday. Thinking he and his fiendish friends can do a better job at festive cheer, chaos ensues. Naturally, there’s lots of singing in this Tim Burton classic, and you'll still be humming when you tuck the kids into bed later on.

Casper (1995)

Christina Ricci was very much the queen of young Halloween in the early 90s and when it came to ghost hunting with her onscreen dad Bill Pullman, there was no better team to solve the case. At the haunted Whipstaff Manor, we meet Casper the friendly ghost whose dream is to become a real boy. We also meet some not so friendly ghosts that are ready to scupper his plans. When you see how the ghosts eat, you'll never complain about crumbs on the floor again!

Addams Family (1991)

It might be a bit of a terror tale for some very young family members, but this 90s reimaging of the Addams Family features a star studded case including Christopher Lloyd, Angelica Huston, Raúl Juliá and Christina Ricci. With their creepy castle manor under threat after the return of long lost uncle Fester, the family must band together to take back what’s theirs. With character names like ‘It’ and ‘Thing’, you know you’re in for a treat.

Monsters Inc. (2001)

Imagine there’s a different world where all those monsters we thought lived under our beds are real and our terrified screams help them keep the power on. Well imagine no more, cause more than 15 years ago, Pixar introduced us to Sulley and Mike to monsters with hearts of gold who find a young girl ‘Boo’ has snuck back to the monster world with them. If your family are hooked they’ll be delighted to know there are also two sequels to enjoy.

The Haunted Mansion (2003)

Did you know that the Pirates of The Caribbean started off as a theme park ride long before it was a film? Well the same thing happened with Disney’s The Haunted Mansion, which was adapted to the screen with Eddie Murphy in the leading role. Anyone who has experienced the ride in real life will take delight in seeing the attraction come alive.

Hocus Pocus (1993)

We’ve saved the best for last. It’s unlikely that you haven’t heard of the Sanderson sisters and their Halloween exploits in the town of Salem. In the off chance you haven’t, well we’re very jealous because Hocus Pocus is one of the greatest Halloween movies regardless of your age. Beth Midler, Thora Birch and Sarah Jessica Parker all star in a film that is all but guaranteed to be on television this Halloween. Never light a candle in an abandoned cottage, always listen to the advice of a talking cat and most important of all, have fun.
