Can't make it to the gym and want to fit some exercise into your busy day? Here are 5 tips that will get you on the right track.
1. Use your body weight to work out
Some of the best exercises require nothing but your own body weight. The plank turns weak cores strong – lie face down while resting on your forearms and push up off the ground, holding the position for as long as you can. Or tone up your legs and bottom with Plié squats: hands on hips, turned out feet, align your knees to your toes, squat, repeat.
2. Turn housework into exercise
Fitness becomes a natural part of your daily routine with the right approach. Run or cycle with the dog instead of walking, carry your shopping up two stairs at a time and set time targets for slow household cleaning tasks – guaranteed to work up a sweat.
3. Exercise through TV adverts
Use ad breaks as an excuse to get off your rear and do something active. Squeeze in a few sets of star jumps for some light cardio, sit-ups for core stability, bicep curls using a 1.5kg dumbbell (or even a tin of beans!) for toned arms along with tricep dips (using the sofa as support) during each three-minute interval.
4. Work out with video games
People feel less tired and more motivated during a video game workout, even if they’re using the same amount of energy. Burn calories dancing around your living room with a games console programme or even a YouTube video that you feel is at your pace.
5. Try online yoga
