Ballincollig Parkrun Grows Legs Thanks to Local Community Support

Watch how Ballincollig Parkrun has grown its legs thanks to local community support.

Launched in June 2016, the Ballincollig Parkrun has seen Cork’s running community go from strength to strength, with over 200 runners taking up the 5k challenge each week.

The free weekly runs are organised entirely by a local community of volunteers who encourage people from all walks of life to get active and get involved. The group saw record numbers in recent weeks due to their involvement in Operation Transformation with nearly 400 people in attendance, despite some frosty weather conditions.

With growing numbers, the volunteers needed to be extra vigilant and entered the Tesco Community Fund to help support the cost of a defibrillator.

Suzi Quirke, one of the lead volunteers said: “The funding we have received from the Tesco Community Fund will ensure that we can buy a new defibrillator to have with us on site so that we are in a position to react in case of any emergencies. Being involved in the fund has also helped increased people’s awareness of the run and we are seeing new faces every week. To anyone interested in coming along- we’ll see you at the start line. ”
