Ireland’s Biggest Fancy Dress Party – 23 July 2016

On Saturday 23rd July, we will be holding Ireland’s biggest fancy dress party in all our stores with our staff across Ireland to raise €100k for our Charity Partner, Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Ireland's biggest fancy dress

The €100k raised will go towards buying another piece of life saving equipment that is needed so very badly for the little heroes in the children’s hospital.

You can also take part in this event by coming down to our stores and donating money by buying cakes and goodies or even bringing your little heroes down in fancy dress for their chance to win prizes.

Tesco colleagues will be kitted out in a variety of costumes while they host parties at the front of each store with cake sales, face-painting, badge creation stations, balloons and much more on the day.

Top 5 Fancy Dress Costumes

To help inspire colleagues with costume ideas, Tesco conducted a survey on the fancy dress preferences of over 1,000 shoppers and now we can reveal the Top 5!

5. At position five, with 4% of the vote, dressing up as a version of the Board Game Twister is a surprisingly popular choice.

4. In at number four is everyone's favourite ogre, Shrek. This popular Dreamworks character stole your hearts with 9% of the vote.

3. With five different options to choose from, it's surprising that The Spice Girls only add up to 10% of the popular vote. We wonder which Spice Girl is the most popular?

2. Great things come in small packages painted blue, at least that's what you voted for in position two, The Smurfs.

1. The Caped Crusader, the Dark Knight, Gotham's Protector — whatever you call him, Batman is in at number one with 28% of the vote.

Also making the top costume list were Wonder Woman, Abba, Minions, Zombies, Witches and Marilyn Monroe.

Can you believe that 18% of respondents said they would never dress up for a fancy dress party? Where's the fun in that?

It's not just our Tesco colleagues that will be dressing up on the big day, some of our little heroes will be putting on their favourite costumes.

Myles Jordan, aged 4, from Ashbourne, Co. Meath helped launch the fundraiser and is excited to be dressing up as a Tiger Zookeeper on the big day.

Myles has been a frequent patient of Temple Street Children's Hospital since he was 16 days old. By supporting our Charity Partner events, like Ireland’s Biggest Fancy Dress Party, you're making a positive difference in the lives of all the little patients of Temple Street.
